Description
This Detector was in operation at Beavertail for 20 years and was replaced by the Mariner Radio Activated Sound System (MRASS) in 2019
Designed by Fidelity Technologies, PA as a backscatter particle light detector. It comprises a XENON Flash (strobe) Optic transmitter and a Receive Optic Photo-diode detector coupled to a high gain amplifier. The system's setpoint to activate the fog signal could be set from .5 to 9 miles. The model VM 100 has been used as a fog detector by both lighthouses and airports.
