Description
This detector was in operation at Beavertail for 20 years and replaced by the Mariner Radio Activated System (MRASS) in 2019.
Designed by Fidelity Technologies, PA, as a backscatter particle light detector, It compromises an XENON Flash (strobe) Optic Transmitter and a Recieve Optic Photo-diode detector coupled to a high grain amplifier. The systems set point to activate the fog signal could be set from .5 to 9 miles. The model VM 100 has been used as a fog detector by both lighthouses and airports.
