BLMA RHODE ISLAND SHIPWRECK DATA BASE

Welcome to the Beavertail Lighthouse Museum Association’s (BLMA) shipwreck data base. This search engine provides the most comprehensive list of maritime events that have taken place in Rhode Island waters from Colonial times to present day. Each event is a story in itself providing the reader historical information gleaned from hundreds of archival sources. Each event is accompanied by a detailed description of the vessel(s) involved and related information.

The creation of the BLMA data base began in 2008 by Jim Jenney (BLMA Maritime Historian) and is considered “work in progress”. It will be updated periodically. The computer search engine was created by David Smith (BLMA Member and Docent) using tools developed by DataTables and Yadcf (Yet Another Datatables Column Filter)

While most of the information has been secured from open sources and government files, the data base includes some preapproved copyrighted material thereby restricting its further duplication and distribution other than for personal non commercial use.
